speed cameras M1 speed cameras M180 speed cameras M25 speed cameras everywhere. Are they a blessing or a blight, and what are the rules governing their use and deployment.
One thing is for certain as motorists we need to be aware of them. One doesn't have to be a serial speedster to be caught by one. A momentary lapse and then the dreaded double flash followed by a nightmare two weeks wait to see if the notice of prosecution arrives.
To live with these monsters we first have to understand them and how they work, what triggers them, what doesn't trigger them. I speak not as an authority but rather as a motorist who has fallen foul to a mobile speed trap on the M180 in Yorkshire (hence the domain name of this website). The legal view is detailed below by someone far more qualified than I.
The MY SPEED AURA is a wonderful device which I have been trialling for some time now. It gives a constant and accurate readout of your speed and somehow knows the limit of the stretch of road upon which you are driving.
If you stray over the speed limit the display goes from green to red with an optional audible warning. It also alerts you if you are approaching any speed cameras or high risk areas where speed traps are known to have been set.
I rate this device very highly and quite simply cannot envisage driving without one.
